A broadcast is a one-time bulk send of a WhatsApp template message to a group of contacts. Use broadcasts for promotions, announcements, reminders, or any outbound campaign.
How broadcasts work
Because you’re sending outside a customer-initiated conversation, Meta requires you to use an approved template for every broadcast. Free-form text is not allowed.
WapNotify sends each message individually — one message per contact — so replies come back as individual conversations in your inbox.
Targeting
When creating a broadcast, choose how to select recipients:
| Target type | Who receives the broadcast |
|---|
| Contact list | Every contact in a specific list |
| By tag | Every contact with one or more selected tags |
| All contacts | Every contact in your workspace |
Sending to All contacts can reach a large number of people. Review the recipient count before sending.
Delivery tracking
WapNotify tracks the status of each message in the broadcast:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|
| Pending | Queued, not yet sent |
| Sent | Delivered to WhatsApp’s servers |
| Delivered | Delivered to the recipient’s device |
| Read | Recipient has opened the message |
| Failed | Delivery failed (invalid number, blocked, etc.) |
Open a broadcast and go to the Analytics tab to see per-contact delivery status and aggregate rates.
Replies
When a recipient replies to a broadcast message, their reply appears as a conversation in your inbox — assigned based on your normal routing rules. The 24-hour window opens from the moment they reply, so you can respond with free-form messages.
Broadcast statuses
| Status | Meaning |
|---|
| Draft | Created but not yet sent |
| Running | Currently sending |
| Completed | All messages processed |
| Failed | Send aborted due to a critical error |
